TAMARA MELLON has had plenty of experience dressing herself for parties and events, but dressing on a budget is a challenge in itself. Mellon, whose Jimmy Choo label will become the first brand to collaborate with H&M this season, has attempted to take the Jimmy Choo muse to the masses, creating a high street line with the same ethos as the main collection.
"Through vintage shopping, I had a rail of stuff," Mellon told WWD of the beginning of her design process. "It's the same woman who is the inspiration for Choo's autumn/winter collection. She's rock 'n' roll, a little punk."
The collection - which of course contains a range of shoes and bags - also boasts Mellon's first ready-to-wear collection, an addition she wouldn't rule out in the future for Jimmy Choo. Mellon's favourite piece is a short-sleeved black suede mini-dress covered in long suede fringes that extend past the knee. Other key looks include a black sequinned jersey dress with a plunging neckline; a one-shouldered grey suede mini-dress; a black faux fur vest and a boxy zipped cashmere cardigan covered in black sequins and beads.
As for the shoes, Choo fans will be delighted to know they are all made of leather and exhibit Choo's signature fierce aesthetic. Over-the-knee boots, strappy studded gladiators and zebra sandals all feature and H&M prices are sure to mean a stampede when styles hit H&M stores. The collection, which will comprise shoes, bags and accessories for men and women, will arrive in selected H&M stores on November 14.
